My friend Tim Catchim [link to http://timcatchim.blogspot.com/ ] has just co-authored a book with Alan Hirsch entitled The Permanent Revolution: Apostolic Imagination and Practice for the 21st Century Church.
The book is a work of theological re-imagination and re-construction that draws from biblical studies, theology, organizational theory, leadership studies, and key social sciences. It explores how the apostolic ministry facilitates ongoing renewal in the life of the church and focuses on leadership in relation to missional innovation and entrepreneurship. The authors examine the nature of organization as reframed through the lens of apostolic ministry.
Specifically, it:
• Brings clarity to the fivefold ministry vocations of Ephesians 4 and their significance for the maturity of the church as movement
• Explores the biblical foundations of apostolic ministry and leadership
• Demonstrates how the apostolic ministry facilitates ongoing renewal in the life of the church
• Looks at how to view the world through a biblical perspective and continue the “permanent revolution” that Jesus started
• Outlines the essential characteristics of apostolic movement and how to restructure the church and ministry to be release it towards it’s revolutionary potential.
In essence, this book offers a strategic framework for re-activating our most generative forms of leadership and ministry. If you are looking to enhance your capacity for movement and missional effectiveness, then this book was written for you. We really believe that the church that Jesus intended is meant to be a permanent revolution.
Just a few remarks about Tim…
He grew up largely in the metropolitan region around Washington D.C. His leadership experience revolves around urban and semi-urban church planting, discipling, and working with at-risk youth.
Tim functions as a multi-vocational entrepreneur. In order to support his church planting habit, he started a curbside recycling business. He is the founder and director of Generate, a coaching and consultant agency for apostolic ventures. He specializes in bringing strategic vision and clarity to entrepreneurial ventures and the process of innovation. Integrated into his leadership philosophy and praxis is a thorough understanding of atonement models, discipleship, the fivefold ministries of APEST, MBTI, group dynamics, and organizational design.
As a practitioner of grass roots church planting, he brings a unique perspective that can only be forged through experimentation, failure, and fruitfulness.
